Baby Jesus in the Orange Crate

My Nativity scene is set up. It has a place all its own on top of our antique roll-top desk and at night, when the room is dark and lit with candles, it shows up beautifully beneath my desk lamp. I used to have an elaborate stable but sold it in some yard sale or another during one of our many moves...so the baby Jesus gets put in an old orange crate...and somehow to me, that seems appropriate. It makes me remember that Jesus did not arrive to pomp and splendor. He came to a lowly manger in an ancient stable.

My prayer for you this Christmas, is that amidst all the glitz and glamor that Christmas has become, your focus will be on that tiny baby that was born in a stable and grew to give His life as a payment for our sins so we could become perfect before God.

"For today in the city of David there has been born for you, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:11

Cold Vs Cold

I'm still fighting a cold. One of those colds where you wake up in the morning and cough for the next hour or two to make up for not coughing during the night. It has kept me from my early morning walks which means my whole day has a different slant to it. This morning I decided enough was enough. Although I couldn't take a brisk walk up the road, I could at least wander our acre for a little while. It was cold! I haven't really been out all week and this was one of the coldest mornings so far this year. But I love it! I drew a heart in the frost on our truck as I walked by and yes, I licked the ice off my fingers.

I am not seven years old, waiting for the bus outside my parent's house but I felt much the way I did then, exhilarated by the cold, loving the stillness. And when I came inside I felt better. It was a case of cold versus cold and in the end the cold outside won! I feel better! On with my day!

Rain On The Driveway

We have the flu or winter colds. For most of the day, we sat on the couch, my two boys and I, and watched the rain come down on the driveway. We attempted to do some math, wheezed our way through some science, opened the language arts book and stared blankly at the pages. In the end we watched Road to Avonlea, Arthur, and some nature program...and the rain on the driveway. It was cozy and we were very peaceful except for some occasionally coughing and snuffling. If I'm going to be sick and stuck inside, these are two of my favorite people to do it with.

New Steps

Facebook is not enough. I love to post pictures of my family, events of the day, and the wonderful wildlife in my backyard but I am feeling limited as to what I can share so I am following in the footsteps of my daughter and daughter in law and trying my hand at blogging!

Now for a little bit about me. First of all, I am a Christian. There is no way I would be where I am today without the loving guidance of my Heavenly Father. I am in my fifties which doesn't seem possible when I am biking down to the park with my 10 and 12 year old. But they are my youngest boys and it seems more possible when I am looking at the beautiful granddaughters my oldest son and his wife have given me. I have seven children, 5 boys and 2 girls almost all grown. My husband and I live in our 17th house and run a music school that has been created piece by piece over 38 years, 31 of which I have been a participant in. Our life is sometimes chaotic, sometimes sweetly peaceful. I enjoy so many of  the wonderful day to day things God has blessed our lives with, that I want to share them with you. I want to tell you some of the amazing chapters we have been through and let you see a glimpse of my world as I see it. Welcome.
